Re: Replacing disks on 3PAR System (servicemag)

Hi,

I can confirm 100% that this is a new disk, have tried 3 separate new disks :o(, perhaps the commands im running are incorrect...

1- servicemag start  3 5
2- locatecage -t 255 cage3 5
3- Remove faulty Disk

wait for 'success' then move onto step 4
4- Add new Disk
5- servicemag resume 3 5

here is where it goes wrong...
6- checkhealth pd

Thanks

Torsten.

Re: Replacing disks on 3PAR System (servicemag)

Well, after starting servicemag you need to wait for "succeeded" before removing the disk.

However, after replacing the disk and a "resume" you will see the old disk listed but not connected and a new disk with new id at the same position.
Any alerts shown?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Replacing disks on 3PAR System (servicemag)

There are no new disks showing up with new ID nor are there 2 lots of disks in posision 3:5:0.

Is it worth buying disks with the same part number? Old disk PN: 9CA 158 - 180 / new PN:9CA 158 - 138 ?

Re: Replacing disks on 3PAR System (servicemag)

You should see a "hp-style" partnumber on the labels, e.g. 649984-001.

Is there any?

The array will most likely not recognize a non supported disk drive.

Hope this helps!

Re: Replacing disks on 3PAR System (servicemag)

Hi, I see your logic but the old disk which was working untill it failed had the PN: 9CA 158 - 180 so at some point this was accepted by the array.

Re: Replacing disks on 3PAR System (servicemag)

The question is about your new disk.

The old disk is seagate ST31000340NS with a seagate product number 9CA158-180.

In terms of hp spare part numbers this should be 640816-001 or 649984-001.

Maybe you can even see an old 3par style number like F975-200005.

What is on the new drive?

I guess you are using a drive that is not supported on the array.

(because this is without a caddy and obviously not recognized by the array)

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Replacing disks on 3PAR System (servicemag)

hi with regards to 'because this is without a caddy and obviously not recognized by the array' the disk is in the same caddy and is screwed in as normal. I will go back to our datacenter to see if I can confirm that the wwn begning with 2... is the caddy or not but as it stands im a little stuck :(

Re: Replacing disks on 3PAR System (servicemag)

I assume an original spare part always comes with a caddy, but you have a drive without.

So is it an original spare part with a supported disk or not?

Hope this helps!

Re: Replacing disks on 3PAR System (servicemag)

>.. disks not normal yet..trying admit/onloop again

If the onloop fails, it will still show the old WWN.

Try a manual onloop:

controlmag onloop -f cage3 5

>The array will most likely not recognize a non supported disk drive.

That's correct.  It must have the proper model #.

To see the WWN of the new disk you may have to use showcage -d and not showpd -i.

showcage -d cage3

Then look for this area:

-------------Drive Info------------- ----LoopA----- ----LoopB-----
Drive          NodeWWN   LED Temp(C) ALPA LoopState ALPA LoopState
