CPG Expansion in 3PAR T400
In my 3PAR T400, we have CPGs made up of both FC and NL Disks. NL has the physical capacity as mentioned-
Total size is 44 TB
Allocated 34 TB
Free 10 TB
We have made three CPGs out of it, one is RAID1 and other RAID5 and RAID6, However, the CPGs are nearing to its allocated percentage (99% full and red), despite free space. I have the following questions-
1. whether i can expand the CPGs with this free space.
2. Can I do it on the fly? Do i need to bring down the servers associated with the CPGs.
3. What is the process of CPG expansion?
I have just stared working on 3PAR, and these are the first hurdles in my path. I need the assistance of this forum to accompolish my task succesfully.
Many thanks in advance
Best Regards from INDIA

Re: CPG Expansion in 3PAR T400
A CPG is just a policy that determines how free space is allocated. 10TB ~ 40,000 NL chunklets. Changes to the limits of a CPG are invisible to the hosts.
Presumably, all you need to do is change either the Warning limit or Allocation limit so the CPG can make use of some (all?) of the remaining free NL chunklets. If you do not really need the limits, you could use a command like
setcpg тАУsdgl 0 тАУsdgw 0 <CPG_name>
See the HP 3PAR Command Line Interface Reference manual for more information.

Re: CPG Expansion in 3PAR T400
Thank you Sheldon, but in my case Warning limit or Allocation limit is not checked, and CPG is 99% full.

What command are you using that says 99%?
What does "showcpg -r" show?
Have you used compactcpg yet?
What does "showspace -t 1" and "showspace -t 6" show?

OK, i tried compact CPG and recovered 2TB. However, CPG is still red, how can i make it allright. I ran commands and still see the free space.

Re: CPG Expansion in 3PAR T400
Hmm, I wonder: Post the output of "showcpg -sag" and "showcpg -sdg".
