Dear Team.
We have a 3PAR 8400 with 2 nodes, which is out of support
Firmware : 3.2.2 MU3 with P41
Disk staus : One SSD disk in degraded state
Servicemag status: no servicemag operation log
as per the advisory the new disk needs a patch upgrade P97 for new disk enablement.
Hence how do we proceed with the replacement of the degraded disk.
Thanks.

Re: HPE 3PAR 8400 has one SSD disk in degrade state.
HI ILYPAT,
Thanks for using the HPE 3PAR Forum,
In 3PAR, physical disks are at the lowest level of data structure. The next is Chunklets. In StoreServ, a chunklet is 1GB of contiguous space on a physical disk. RAID is implemented at the chunklet level.
For any RAID implementation, 3PAR takes a specific number of chunklets including parity.
If any PD has an issue, then Servicemag will automatically start moving the chunklets to spare chunklets. During this process, the PD will be reported as degraded.
If the servicemag is in progress, then wait for it to complete and then PD will be reported as failed. Then, it is safe for the replacement.
Few helpful commands:-
cli% showpd -failed тАУ degraded
cli% servicemag status
Thank you

Hi ILYPAT
For PD replacement you can log a case with HPE.
and process the same as T&M (trade and Material) paid service.

Re: HPE 3PAR 8400 has one SSD disk in degrade state.
Hi Mr Smith,
Let me rephrase my question.
The degraded disk replacement is not available with HPE - hence we received replacement disk with different spare part nos which is not compatible with the current 3PAR OS firmware 3.2.2 MU3 + P41.
the replacement disk requied path 97 for disk enablement
My question is - can we update the patch when the disk is in degraded state & how can we achive this.
Any assistance on this would be helpful.
Regards,

Re: HPE 3PAR 8400 has one SSD disk in degrade state.
It is always a problem if your devices are running older, unsupported OS versions ...
It would be nice to know why the disk is degraded (it is not failed!), try this:
showpd -s 30
showpd -e 30
showpd -path 30
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HPE 3PAR 8400 has one SSD disk in degrade state.
Hi Torsten,
We had to keep the 3APR on older version as Cisco UCS are presented with 3PAR volumes - as UCS current firmware do not support higher version of 3PAR OS as of date.
So the output of showpd -s & servicemag status is as below.

Please post the requested output too.
3.2.2.MU3 is unsupported since early year 2017.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: HPE 3PAR 8400 has one SSD disk in degrade state.
Hi Torsten,
Please find the output of the requested command. It shows path A is missing. I checked CLI manual to reset the missing path but nothing is mentioned.
Thanks for the support.

Re: HPE 3PAR 8400 has one SSD disk in degrade state.
Hi All,
i tried executing the below command
"cgcmd -tc tty -C cage1 -c resetdrive 30 -p a"
It gives the following output: invalid drive:30
is there any other way we can reset the missing path.
Regards.
