HPE 3par StorageServ Raid5 Disk failed
I am having issue with HPE 3Par 8400 StorageServ, there is one disk failed on Cage 0 Disk 1 and I would like to replace the disk, I did check the steps to replace the disk but after replacing the disk the new disk still showing failed again. I will need your help to fix this issue.
I had follow the steps mentioned below link:
https://d8tadude.com/2014/07/25/hp-3par-replacing-a-failed-disk/
Everything is good with servicemag status and it was showing succeed before removing the drive but after replaced the drive, new drive showing failed by checking the servicemag status.
I am attaching the snapshot to go through further.
Please advise if I am missing something or guide how to fix this step by step.
Thank you,
Regards.

Re: HPE 3par StorageServ Raid5 Disk failed
For me it looks like, that this replacement Drive is not an original 3PAR Drive.
Are you sure, that the replacement has the same Spare Part# and never be used in another System, as 3PAR?
Did you try admithw command?
Cali

Re: HPE 3par StorageServ Raid5 Disk failed
Dear Cali,
Thank you for your response, the disk we used was brand new and received from HP vendor and it was sealed pack when we insert into SAN.
Further, we have ordered more drive with the same part number.
No, I did not run command admithw, I followed the simple rule which mentioned in original post screenschot.
Please advise the steps after replacing the disk because now new drive is still in cage and we did not put the old hard drive back.
Thank you,
Kashif.

Re: HPE 3par StorageServ Raid5 Disk failed
Hi Kashif,
I agree with Cali that the drive looks to be something not meant for this model of the array.
What is the drive model number?
Also please share the below o/p?
showpd -i
showversion

Re: HPE 3par StorageServ Raid5 Disk failed
Hi veeyarvi
We are looking for new drive for the same firmware and part number with the different vendors but mostly they have used or pulled hard drive, brand new drive with same firmware is not available.
Further, I want to pull the new installed drive from the storage and insert the old same drive in the storage, it will effect any thing in storage? Please confirm!
Also, please advise how to resolve this issue? Can you please refer me steps to replace the failed drive in 3Par Storage.
Thank you,
Kashif.

Re: HPE 3par StorageServ Raid5 Disk failed
Currnetly, we have 3P02 firmware version level of failed drive, which firmware level version range we can use in same storage.

Re: HPE 3par StorageServ Raid5 Disk failed
Hi Mrkashifkah,
It does look like the PDs are not yet part of the array. So you can safely pull them out. And it is not clear, how did you pull out the old drive earlier. Was that after vaating the drive (servicemag start)?
Once a drive is admitted, then only you can update the firmware of the same. Currently, the drives are unable to get admitted. That is why I asked the model of the drive.

Re: HPE 3par StorageServ Raid5 Disk failed
Hi,
The issue has been fixed, it was the issue with drive we bought it from the vendor, because of upgraded firmware of hard drive it did not initizialize in SAN storage, we replaced the drive with same firmware version and later it initialized and synced in normal mode.
Thank you all for the help and support.
Regards.

Re: HPE 3par StorageServ Raid5 Disk failed
One more question, after replacing the hard drive I am analyzing that ID number has changed to 45 from 1.
The failed drive ID number was 1.
Is there any effect on this because I cannot see any error on drive now.
Please advise.
Thanks.

Re: HPE 3par StorageServ Raid5 Disk failed
This is by Design and as expected.
The next replacement Drive will probably be the 1.
Cali
