You got the wrong backplane and drive cage, you need one that supports x4 PCIEe, your does X1, even if it worked you will take an enormouse performance hit on that drive.

I installed it correctly, but the SSD drive is not recognized in BIOS or raid. I think the backplane must be U2 to support U2 SSD.

Overall: The U3 SSD runs well in the U2 backplane, but the U2 SSD does not run in the U3 backplane

@cungle68

You're correct—while U.3 SSDs can work in a U.2 backplane, U.2 SSDs do not always work in a U.3 backplane

The possible solution options would be:

- Use a U.2 backplane – If you want to use your PM9A3 U.2 NVMe SSDs, you may need an HPE U.2-specific NVMe backplane instead of the Tri-Mode U.3 backplane.

-  Try a direct PCIe adapter – Use a U.2 to PCIe adapter to test if the SSDs work outside the backplane.

- Check firmware and BIOS settings –NVMe mode is enabled in the BIOS/RAID settings and update the firmware.

I hope it helps.
