I am planning to buy an additional CPU and more RAM (either we will add one or two memory modules).
Can anyone tell me the procedures (or point me to the documentation) to add the parts and what I need to do to the system's configuration.
Thanks

Re: Adding CPU and RAM to L2000 server
if the meemory and the cpu are properly installed by the engineer, in the next rebbot it automatically recognise the same. no additional configuration is necessary. if u want to confirm it, u can use stm or mstm and verify the status of the devices. In K class there are some rules with the memory filling, anyway it will be done by the hp support guy and u dont hv to worry.

SolutionI believe the instructions for installation are usually placed in the box. If you are only adding a second CPU, you will probably not have to do anything, other than taking the necessary anti-static precautions.
If you are moving up to the 2Gb memory modules 2x1024Mb, you will probably need to install the latest firmware in order to have it recognized, but the 1Gb 2x512 should be fine. The 2Gb only started being supported this year in the L-class (the N-class supported them from the beginning).
Memory installation is relatively simple, you add them in pairs in the following order;
0a,0b; 1a,1b; 2a,2b .... 7a,7b, and pairs must be of the same type and density (ie can't mis-match size and/or SIMM/DIMM).
All the information is on the ITRC (although it is a little outdated), you can find it at;
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/hw/lclass/index.html
I don't remember what the current firmware version is (something like 39.40 or 40.08), but that is usually better left to your HP-CE to perform anyway. If you blow the update, they are going to have to get involved anyway.
Oh yes, one more thing, I can't stress the anti-static stuff enough. Static problems are usually very subtle, but will make your system act very strange. It is always better to be safe than sorry.
