Re: cable

cable

I would like to connect an external tape drive(Quantam :DLT 4000) for my L-2000 box.

I need to purchase the right cable for this. If anybody knows the exact part number for this cable and a terminator would be realy helpful.

I'm trying to run make_net_recovery using this external tape drive. Per doc, L class servers are supported with the external drive.
Any thoughts on creating bootable tapes would be highly appriciated..

Re: cable

Hi:

Before answering that, we need a few details. Almost certainly, your DLT4000 has a FWD interface which is HVD SCSI. Unless you have purchased FWD SCSI controllers (A4800A or A5159A - Dual Port) FWD HVD controllers then you can't directly connect the drive because your L-box only has LVD SCSI.

Tell us a bit more and we can help.

Well, ioscan produces this result , SCSI C896 Fast Wide LVD

Re: cable

That is definitely FWD LVD SCSI and is absolutely positively not compatible with FWD HVD SCSI. I'm almost positive that your DLT4000 is FWD HVD SCSI. You need to get a HVD SCSI controller for your L-box.

Re: cable

As Clay has said, we really need to know EXACTLY what type of drive the DLT drive is. I've got a DLT4000 attached to my C200 workstation on the SE SCSI interface.

It is possible that yours is SE SCSI as well and you'd need to verify that your D box has a SE SCSI interface.

The cable is not as important as making sure your SCSI types are compatible between the peripheral and the controller.

Re: cable

How do I make sure that I've HVD SCSI in DLT4000 , and Also is there anyother way to check what type of controller card I've.
