CPU's

I am purchasing 2 more 180 mhz processors for our K460 9000 machine, how do I find out what rev our chips? Does it matter? And what should be the rev of the new chips? If the revs are different, is that ok? or do I have to upgrage the rev of the chips I already have?

Re: CPU's

There will be no problem running your box with CPU's that are on different firmware revisions.

I'm running a K 360 with 4 CPU and three different revisions.

Re: CPU's

In general HP use to send it with the latest PDC firmware level. So, you should not have any problem with that.

Re: CPU's

Hi Jeff,

I don't think revision is a problem over here. The K460 processors are PA RISC 8000. The processor speed is 180MHz.

Hope this helps.

Re: CPU's

It does not matter. The CPUs can have different rev. And I think there is no way to find out what rev your current chip is.

STM allowa you to find out the revision levels

Re: CPU's

My apologies, Rainer is right, you might be able to get the rev info.

Try this ..
# echo "sel path system;info;wait;infolog
>view
>done
>"|cstm > info
# cat info

Re: CPU's

Hi,

The syntax i use to find my cpu info is,

echo 'selclass qualifier cpu;info;wait;infolog' |cstm >cpuinfo.txt

Then more this file to read it.

Hope this helps

Re: CPU's

You should have no problems with the newer processors mixed with the old one's.

HP will come out and update the firmware if you are concerned with it not being consistent.
Just place a service call with HP and they will take care of it.

Re: CPU's

Jeff,
There is no problem to mix CPU boards with different chip revisions! (and it's not possible to upgrade the chip revision)
Some of the answers mix chip and PDC revision. The PDC is stored on the system card (in the PDH (Processor Dependent Hardware)) and not on the CPU boards. Due to that is it not necessary to track the PDC revision down to every single CPU.
Just plug your new boards into the system, switch it on and pray that they will work
There is no good troubleshooting with bad data
