Hi,
Sorry for my English, i'm French.
I 've got trouble on a HP rp3440 server .
The server crashed few months ago and some materials were changed on it (including motherboard).
Now when I power on the server, i only have an access with the Management Processor where i see nothing on the live console after power on.
When I try to boot from the primary or alternative boot, from MP it failed . I also try to boot from a HP/UX dvd but it seems to not detect the dvd .
Actualy, it doesn't seem to preload/preboot something when power on ...
Do you already have this issue or any lead to help me ?
Or can i throw it and buy a new one ?

Re: HP rp3410 does not boot / init process when power on
When you power up the server, you should see the MP menu where you can select CO to connect to the console. Instead, type SL for the system logs.
Then F to select forward progress)
Then type A3T
This will display problems during selftest.

Hi,
Unfortunetely, I 've got nothing on SL warning except some powersupply event when I unplug them last week.

Re: HP rp3410 does not boot / init process when power on
I cleared all the log and try a power off / power on to see only the associated logs .
I don't see anything wrong (warning / failed / error) but I'm not an HP logs expert .
If anyone has some time to look them:

Re: HP rp3410 does not boot / init process when power on
This looks good so far.
What happens then?
Does it just stop?
Consider to remove any PCI card installed and check if it boots into the boot menu now.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Nothing happen after, no log in the console log, no menu, just a black screen.
I will look for the PCI card

Re: HP rp3410 does not boot / init process when power on
It looks the same without the PCI card . Juste a black screen on the console or live event.
I 've also a green LED flashing for SYSTEM in the front panel and in MP it say "running non os code" but it can be normal .

Re: HP rp3410 does not boot / init process when power on
No red or amber LEDs in the front?
The green get steady when the kernel is loaded.

Did you cut some entries?
The last step you can see is init of core I/O (273) and PCI slot 1 (277) without an error.
Try to select live logs, power on the system and post all the output.

Re: HP rp3410 does not boot / init process when power on
Hi,
Nop, only a green led flashing so i think that the kernel do not load .
The lines cut were the exact same lines . This is why i cut them.
I'm still trying to get all the event but it stay on this last event :
BOOT_INVOKE_BCH

Re: HP rp3410 does not boot / init process when power on
>> The lines cut were the exact same lines . This is why i cut them.
NO, not exact the same, example::
273 SFW 0 0 0x0400008700E00000 000000FFFF00FF83 IO_LBA_INIT
....
277 SFW 0 0 0x0400008700E00000 000000FFFF04FF83 IO_LBA_INIT
In this example each LBA (local bus adapter, this connects the PCI slots) has an own line.
>> BOOT_INVOKE_BCH
This is usually the very last line in the output, it means "starting boot console handler".
Question now is - why you don't see this menu.
I'm quite sure it is there.
How exactly do you connect to the system?
If in MP menu and you select "CO" you can't see anything?
MP:CM> ma
MP MAIN MENU:
CO: Console
VFP: Virtual Front Panel
CM: Command Menu
CL: Console Log
SL: Show Event Logs
CSP: Connect to Service Processor
SE: Enter OS Session
HE: Main Help Menu
X: Exit Connection
[] MP> co
You may also have a look into the console log (CL).
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HP rp3410 does not boot / init process when power on
It looks like the problem is the installed CPUs and memory:
WARNING: A fatal error has occurred- system cannot boot. Review warning messages in the Information menu. WARNING: The CPU speed exceeds the limit, 800MHz, for this system. Installation of upgrade license required run this system with the installed CPUs. WARNING: More memory installed in this system than the supported maximum, 6 GBytes, for this system. Processor is booting from the first available device. Boot terminated.
This system will not try to boot from the disk until the two hardware issues are resolved (wrong CPUs and too much memory).

Re: HP rp3410 does not boot / init process when power on
Ok i will look for these issues. Memory should be easy but for the CPU :/
The strange part is that, except the motherboard changed by HP, the hardware didn't change (including CPU and memory).
So maybe it comes from the motherboard , the only part changed by HP .
(it's an old server which had crashed, HP have changed the motherboard and some power supply, the server didn't boot and have not boot since. Resolving the boot issue was not a part of the intervention)

Re: HP rp3410 does not boot / init process when power on
>> except the motherboard changed by HP
OK, I guess the reason is a wrong model string set for this system.
Is it really a rp3410 or is it originally a rp3440?
What does the pull out label say?
We need the console to correct this.
Are 2 CPUs installed?
Remove one.
Remove all memory except the first pair.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

SolutionObviously the board was replaced but not configured.
The default setting is rp3410 - limited in CPU, memory and PCI slots.
It you have too many of them, it will not boot.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: HP rp3410 does not boot / init process when power on
If HP replaced the board for you, I would have them come back and finish the repair which would include proper configuration and latest firmware update.

This is the best and probably only solution.
Hope this helps!

Re: HP rp3410 does not boot / init process when power on
OK i look into ther server .
There are only one CPU.
The product number was covered in the pull out so i think that the tech HP put the new number on it .
OLD : A7137A
NEW: A7137AR
From MP it say that the current product number is A7137AR so i try to change that but i can't do the init commande, only this;
PN C A7137A
It seems to change the product number but I still have the warning and no boot after a reboot.
I m not really sure of what was done during the HP intervention (i was not here), but it seems that the guy changed our A7137A with a A7137AR which are not compatible with our Hardware ?
Tomorrow, i will ask the guy who was here during the intervention to find answer and see what can i do with HP because the intervention was few months ago ...
Thanks a lot to you guys for your time and help . It was very constructive for me !

Re: HP rp3410 does not boot / init process when power on
A7137A - HP Server rp3440-4 PA-8800 Dual-Core Processor 4-way Capable Base System
The setting of your system board does not match this model.
Let HPE correct this.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: HP rp3410 does not boot / init process when power on
Hi,
HP came back last friday and went into a secret menu protected with a lockword with the commande ss_update from MP
In this menu you have to configure :
- serial number
- product number
- Model: 1 CPU / 2 CPU / SPEED / 3410 / 3440 ...
The last one was not configured correctly ....
My server can now boot without any issues.
Thanks you all for your help and support !!
