Re: Installing memory

Hello,

How much memory have you got right now?

There are rules to install memory in a K-Class series.

1. Remove all memory currently installed in the system
2. Combine the removed memory and the new memory and organise them into 4 groups:
a) 512Mb modules (2*256)
b) 256Mb modules (2*128)
c) 128Mb modules and 64Mb modules
d) 32Mb modules
3. divide each group into pairs of modules (4 SIMMs) and single modules (2 SIMMs), if any
4. install any PAIRS of modules (4 SIMMs) as follows:
a) install form largest to smallest meory size.
b) install from lowest numbered slots to highest numbered slots,
5. When all PAIRS of modules are installed, install any remaining modules (2 SIMMs) in the same fashion as 4.

If you have dual memory extenders, you must install memory in alternating PAIRS of modules between extenders, obeying the above rules as well in the process.

Re: Installing memory

Kevin,

Vince gave you a great, concise explanation. If you want the "full treatment" (complete with pictures), you can view or download the memory upgrade manual (PDF) from the docs.hp.com website. Here's a link to it:

Of course to use the 4GB, you will need 11 or 11i in 64 bit mode!
