K-Class "FLT 3100" error on boot

Hello folks,

I have an HP K-Class that is failing to boot with a "FLT 3100" error on the LCD. I have talked to an HP engineer, and he said it was a CPU failure. Unfortunately, this system was part of a loaner program, and HP would rather gift it to us than support it (which I fully understand).

However, the boss wants the machine back up. I've swapped out both CPU's with another downed K that I have laying around, but no change. Is there anything else I can swap/check to try to get this beast to breath again?

Thanks for any insight!

Re: K-Class "FLT 3100" error on boot

The meaning of the FLT3100 = FLT 3x00 FEPROM checksum failure where x is the CPU #.

Have you replaced the board with the CPUs on it as well as the CPUs? You might try that next.

For K class fault codes check out this thread:

Hello Patrick,

Well, I have replaced both of the cards that the CPU's reside on - I didn't remove them from their cards, if that's what you're asking.

Is there a third card that can be swapped out, in addition to CPU card 0 & 1?

Thank you so much for your help!

Re: K-Class "FLT 3100" error on boot

The FEPROM for K class systems resides on the system board or backplane. If you have another K class of the same model you can try switching them, but otherwise it can be an expensive part. It can be cheaper to get a whole system in some cases.

Hello Bob,

I do have an identical machine to canibilize, so I may end up doing just that.

Are there docs availible online for this procedure? I don't seem to have much luck searching for things within ITRC...

Thanks!

Re: K-Class "FLT 3100" error on boot

You can go to docs.hp.com and under systems hardware go to the K class.
http://www.docs.hp.com/hpux/hw/index.html#K-Class%20Server
You can view/download an upgrade manual which goes over removing and installing the system board.

Have fun!
