K420 - obsolete!

I have an internet server k420/11 which I consider a robust system. I'd like to attach a DLT 8/8 but I'm told a HSC interface must be installed first at a cost $20,000 CDN. The cost is high because the k420 is obsolete!, I'm told. Suggestion is to trade it in for an L-3000 (256 RAM, 1x18GB)!!! that's a rip-off @$25,000-L3 + $16,000-DLT. Is the DLT 7000 also obsolete? I believe that would work on an HP-PB interface.

Re: K420 - obsolete!

Hello,

DLT7000 is not obsolete. It can be connected to any SCSI-2 SE card.

Re: K420 - obsolete!

thanks for your reply on this, I guess I got the wrong information from an hp reseller. I'll have to call hp directly to get the information so I can put forward a p.o.for a dlt 7000.

Re: K420 - obsolete!

Hi,

By "not obsolete" it means that it is still supported! You cannot order a new DLT7000. Only DLT8000 or higher.

You can order a remarketed DLT7000, I guess.

Sorry if I was misunderstood!

Re: K420 - obsolete!

Wait...

You have a K420, so you could order a DLT8000 drive and attach it to the FWD SCSI interface on the Core IO.

Do you know of anyone who has proofed this?

Re: K420 - obsolete!

Frankie,

I have a LOT of DLT's on my K's, and even a few auto changers! Your reseller is full of it, and should consider going back and just selling M$ products!

Re: K420 - obsolete!

An external storage is connected to the Core I/O adapter, it was worth a try though, thanks. Now the reseller is looking into possibly getting an HSC interface (refurbished) so we can connect a DLT 8000. Too bad HP have taken the DLT 7000 off the market, they could have considered the poor guy left behind who now has the funds to upgrade the K-class...which is still a very reliable, robust system.

Re: K420 - obsolete!

We have an old K210/10.20, any gotchas you may be aware of, if I purchase the DLT 8/8 and connect it on the CORE I/O interface, other than I'll probably have to upgrade the os to 11.0.

Re: K420 - obsolete!

Frankie, before upgrading the OS (Which means do a FRESH install of 11 or 11i), have HP upgrade the firmware, that way they are on site if it fails they can get it fixed right away (which means they have to replace the mother board).
