L1000 memory upgrade

I thought there was a document describing the procedure - System Memory Upgrade Guide L-1000 at http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/hw/lclass/content/00/04/1M/idd/1.html#chdjadjb

This link generates a 404.

Where is the location of the doc?

Re: L1000 memory upgrade

OK. This is a good doc; but now I am confused.

The doc states "memory must be installed in pairs of equal density".

Looking at our config, it seems that only one A5798A module was installed in each machine.

Looking at dmesg | grep -i physical reports:
Physical: 1048576 Kbytes

I have just ordered another A5798A for each machine and want to be sure how to install it correctly.

Re: L1000 memory upgrade

1 memory module = 2 simms

If you are only showing 1 module in your system and you have 1GB of RAM, you most likely have 2 512 MB SIMMS.

If you have diagnostics installed, it will show a memory map, but since I'm not at work I can't tell you precisely where in cstm or xstm to find it.

Re: L1000 memory upgrade

To confirm your physical memory config you need to go ito STM and check it ..

# cstm
cstm> map
===> from the "map" command output look for the line that has the memory and take note of the device number (1st column)
cstm> sel dev
cstm> info
cstm> infolog

Re: L1000 memory upgrade

That simply means that each MODULE consists of a pair of DIMM's. It really means that the DIMM's installed in Slots 0a and 0b MUST be the same capacity BUT the module installed in Slots 1a and 1b can be a diffirent capacity from those in 0a and 0b. The rule is, DIMM's in Slots Na and Nb (one Module) must be identical.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: L1000 memory upgrade

doing the info thing, I get:
Total Configured Memory : 1024 MB
Page Size: 4096 Bytes

Memory interleaving is supported on this machine and is ON.

Memory Board Inventory

DIMM Slot Size (MB)
--------- ---------
0a 512
0b 512

So, the question is, I bought an A5798A, if I put it (them?) in, will it work?
Or, is the A5798A 1 memory module = 2 simms?

I am starting to think I am worrying about nothing.

The site where the machines are is ~3 hours away, so I can't look inside and I don't want to go all the way up there if I'm wrong. I also don't have the memory yet, so I can't look at it.

Re: L1000 memory upgrade

It's a 2x512DIMM . So you're good.. Check the partsurfer.hp.com, I did a search on the part number and this is the result ..
