Memory upgrade

Memory upgrade

L.S.

A reseller will upgrade my D380 and R380 with 2 * 512MB (i.e. 2 * 2 SIMMS of 512MB).

Are there compatibility issues with the SIMMS already installed, e.g. timing problems?

I know about the order the banks must be filled, but I wonder if one can use A3717A (512MB) together with A3408A (128MB).

Re: Memory upgrade

JP,

Sure, no problem. I've had lots of systems with mixed memory SIMMS. Just make sure you install them in the right sequence.

Re: Memory upgrade

the rule is to use largest SIMMs first. HP engineers should know this.

Re: Memory upgrade

There shouldn't be issues with your memory here, I think. The sizes are supported, and you can mix the sizes. As long as you have the slots available, you should be ok...

As long as your higher density SIMMS are first, as you already know, things are good. Just make sure that the pairs are in matching slots...

The only thing I would wonder is if the upgrade is cost effective or not, but it depends on your situation...

Hope it helps

In the case of the D380:
Those two SIMMS together?
Not a problem

In the case of the R380:
Those are the "wrong" part #'s,
but that means nothing

I can't remember for sure, but the R & D might be the same box

Yup - same memory on R & D-Class
[despite part #'s]
Thus - you have no problems

Re: Memory upgrade

JP, you can use a few different part number for the HP 512MB memory kits on the D & R class servers. The A3737A, A3717A, A5793A, & A4984A will all work with no compatibility issues with the A3408A. Most of these kits will run you about $450.00 each in the used market.

Hope this helps
