Reboot after panic: trap type 1 (HPMC)

Last night our server rebooted with the error:

03:04 Mon Jul 07 2003. Reboot after panic: trap type 1 (HPMC), pcsq.pcoq = 280
f.386f3, isr.ior = 6729.404f3e88

The server is an HP900/800 K200 running HP-UX 10.01. (I know its extremely old, unfortunately we're tied to this version because of the application running on it),

Can anyone tell me where I might look for the reason why this error occurred?

thanks, in advance,

Re: Reboot after panic: trap type 1 (HPMC)

HPMC refers to High Priority MAchine Check.

And generally are related to hardware errors.

You mayget some info in ts99 file under /var/adm/crash
There is no substitute to HARDWORK

Re: Reboot after panic: trap type 1 (HPMC)

A HPMC (high priority machine check) usually points to a fault with either a CPU or the backplane problem. The /var/tombstones/ts99 may provide some information. If you have the system maintened by HP I suggest you have these available to send them.

/var/adm/syslog/syslog.log
/etc/shutdownlog
/var/adm/tombstones/ts99
contents of
/var/adm/crash
Anyone for a Mutiny ?

Re: Reboot after panic: trap type 1 (HPMC)

I do not have anything in /var/adm/crash and I don't even have the /var/adm/tombstones directory.

/etc/shutdownlog is where I found the Reboot after panic error listed above.

/var/adm/syslog/syslog.log.2 stops at Jul 6 10:56.
/var/adm/syslog/syslog.log.1 starts at Jul 7 03:04:47 after the reboot.

The reboot occurred at 3:04:47 however, I'm not sure what the error actually means. Is there some table to look at the isr.ior codes?

I saw the other HPMC errors on ITRC but they were a different trap type number. Is there anything special about a trap type 1 versus any of the others previously posted on ITRC?

thanks, in advance,

Re: Reboot after panic: trap type 1 (HPMC)

It's actually /var/tombstones for the ts* files.

Is there anything in your /var/adm/syslog/syslog.OLD from the approximate time of the crash?

Re: Reboot after panic: trap type 1 (HPMC)

I only have these files in my /var/adm/syslogs folder:

Jul 7 22:01 syslog.log
Jul 7 01:00 syslog.log.1
Jul 6 01:00 syslog.log.2
Jul 5 01:00 syslog.log.3
Jul 4 01:00 syslog.log.4
Jul 3 01:00 syslog.log.5

And the timestamps in the files don't have anything around the time frame of the reboot.

My /var folder only has the following:

NOVA/ mail/ opt/ run/ tmp/ yp/
adm/ named/ ppl/ sam/ uucp/
httpd* ncs/ preserve/ spool/ vue/
lost+found/ news/ rbootd/ statmon/ webmin/

Was the tombstone directory in HP-UX 10.01?

Re: Reboot after panic: trap type 1 (HPMC)

Hi,
HPMC is hardware error and it can be decoded by HP proffetional only.

Did you configured save core file for saving crash dump?
ts files i think is not there in 10.01 so you may not have them.
batter contach HP for decoding error.

Re: Reboot after panic: trap type 1 (HPMC)

This is a hardware failure, and the OS you are running is no longer supported.
You will need an engineer to halt the system and read hte piminfo to decide what failed, log a call with your local HP field office.
