Remote console Port
Hi all,
This a N-class server that have a console port, general purpose serial port and a remote console port. There is a requirement to use two serial ports for a particular software running on this server.I have already used the general purpose port.
Can I use the remote console port as the next serial port.here are the required parameters that the port should have.
Baud rate -9600
8 bit
Parity - No
Stop- 1
Xon - No
I just changed the buad rate from 1200- 9600, but it didnt work for the purpose.(cannot communicate). If there is any method to use this port as a serial port.
Thanks
Nuwan

Re: Remote console Port
An N-class server has two serial ports, which are a modem port and a console port. The third "serial" type port is a UPS port.
I would never suggest using the console port for anything other than a console. The modem port is designed to be used for "Predictive Support".
I'd suggest getting a PCI mux card.

Re: Remote console Port
The remote modem port should work with your settings, but it has to be enabled from the GSP prompt.
Type CTRL-B at the console, then enter "er". The remote console port (modem port) should be set to "session", then the OS can use the /dev/tty0p2 device files for accessing the remote modem port. You can switch settings with stty commands or create add. devicefiles with mksf ("man mksf", look for serial options asio0 driver).
The UPS serial port has no modem control lines, but it should also work with 9600 baud.
Good luck
Stefan

Re: Remote console Port
I agree with Harry about getting a mux for serail ports. HP does not recommend using these 3 ports for modem use.
