Single-User Mode with a 425E WKS
I lost root passoword and I'd want to boot in single-user mode for changing that password, but I really don't know how to boot in single user with a 425E workstation

Re: Single-User Mode with a 425E WKS
I am not exaclty sure about booting to single user mode on the older HPUX revs. I know on rev 9.0x there was the usual ISL mode that could be booted to. However on 8.x and lower I dont know.
What I may be able to assist with is breaking the boot process on the 425E series.
Power on.
As soon as you hear two beeps or see the following line press the SPACE bar:
HP-HIL.Keyboard
You can then type C then hit ENTER to get to a config. menu.
Good luck.

Re: Single-User Mode with a 425E WKS
Robert,
Your procedure works, that means I get the menu you mentioned but from that menu you can't start in single user mode.
In the while I found a way to solve my problem: I booted from a tape device containing a Recovery System Tape. Starting from such recovery tape the system give you the chance to choose different options, one of them is TO CHANGE ROOT PASSWORD! That's really what I wanted to get :-))). SO, ALL RIGHT FOR ME.
Thanks anyway
Michele

Re: Single-User Mode with a 425E WKS
Hi,
Once you get the Boot console menu, eneter 'boot isl' command at the prompt. This will give you an ISL prompt. Enter 'hpux -is' at ISL prompt, inorder to boot the system in single user mode.

Shiju
