Hi. Just install a printer with jetadmin. When jetadmin ask you for a printer model, select none of the list and then specify model dumb.

I have done this many times and works. Normaly when we have a printer working in serial or paralel interface and we want just to change to a network printer.

Good Luck

Here's another thought..

When I set up my printers in jetadmin, .. the first thing I do is add the IP of the printer and the name of the printer to my hosts file.
Then when I add a new printer I add using the name (it will resolve using hosts file) ..then I fix the name of the print_queue (which adds a underscore 1 at end) to match the name of the printer (now without the _1) and save it by hitting 0. And done.

Hope this is what you wanted,
Rita

I am assuming that the ProPrinter and FX printers are connected to an HP JetDirect external box. HP's JetAdmin software (or 'network printers' in SAM) refer only to HP JetDirect interfaces. If not, you'll need to use SAM's 'remote printing' settings including setting BSD option. Also, as a remote printer, no translation is done so printing ASCII files will need teh ux2dos filter.

For JetDirect cards, it is even easier now with the addition of the addqueue command. For example:

# /opt/hpnp/bin/addqueue -h 12.34.56.78 -q ibm123

will add the printer assuming the JetDirect box has already been setup with an IP address, etc.
