Adding new pair of 2910al to SAN access
Hi guys,
We are trying to add more esxi servers onto our existing lefthand san. These new servers connect into a pair of 2910al. But whenever we plug in the new pair of 2910 into the existing LIVE system, it seems to kill all the connections ( although I didnt have much time to verify whether it actually killed EVERYTHING before I had to remove them from the live system). I am not sure what the problem is here, STP maybe or I've missed something? - I am a bit rusty with switching now.
Please refer to attached diagram for the setup.
Setup
vlan1 - SAN/iscsi
vlan3 - vmware
-Live system - working perfectly
a pair of two 2910al with STP switched on
Esxi and LH p4500 plug into both of them and trunk (or tagged I should say - we are not talking about cisco here) link between the switches for redundancy
-new system
a pair of two 2910al with STP switched on
Esxi servers plug into both of them and trunk/tagged link between the switches for redundancy
Each switch then plug in one of the live switches for SAN access ONLY
We use a different vlan number for esxi servers here as we dont want them to talk to the ones on live system.
Also note that both pairs have different gateways and the ONLY traffic between them should be SAN/iscsi. In the diagram, all the connections shown are bundled with a few ports.
There is a loop here but from my understanding, STP should be able to sort out the root fairly quickly. The fact is that connections were out for more than 5 mins and eventually I had to unplug the new pair from the live system as mentioned.
Any suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Re: Adding new pair of 2910al to SAN access
hi
The vlan 3 on the left side (live system) and on the right side is not the same. /?
I would therefore first on the uplink ports between the switchen vlan 1 and vlan 3 tag. (between live and new system)
