cisco pvst
we have just purchased some hp 3500yl switches. Currently we have cisco 2960/2950 switchs.
I would like to hub-spoke the cisco to the hp 3500.
With regards to spanning-tree. Most of the cisco switches support a pre-standerd of mstp. Is it possible to use rapid-pvst on the cisco side and mstp on the hp side?

Re: cisco pvst
If you will have redundant layer 2 paths in your network, I think your only spanning tree option in
an HP/Cisco environment is MSTP.

If you are not designing for redundancy, but rather just using spanning tree to block
accidental loops, then PVST on the Cisco's, and STP on the HPs seems to work adequately
for that.

Re: cisco pvst
Hi,
Regarding your product :
- HP E3500 : MSTP without instance (Only CIST, or instance 0) configure as root (priority 0)
- Cisco 2960 : MSTP without instance (Only CIST, or instance 0) configure as non-root (priority 16384)
- Cisco 2950 : Rapid-PVST configure as non-root (priority 16384)
For MST switchs you need to configure a region name and a revision id identical for all devices. Use the latest IOS for Cisco switchs to be sure that MSTP is not implemented in its pre-standard state but full IEEE.
Bye,
