Connect of two 1800-24G with J4860C - no link
I want to connect two 1800-24G with J4860C. The distance between them is 17 km, SingleMode fibre.
I get no link between them over this distance. When I take a short cable, I get a link.
The measurement shows an absorbtion of 11dB. the transmit power is 2.3 dBm
Is this wrong or where could be the problem?

Re: Connect of two 1800-24G with J4860C - no link
Hi,
I verify that this MGBIC is compatible with this device and it's OK.
Do you have any other possibility to test a different switch model and/or MGBIC to validate the link with L2 traffic ?
Is your F.O. wires from each termination link is OK ?
Good luck.

http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02605446/c02605446.pdf does indeed show that the Gbic is compatible with the minimum SW version PB.02.09 and later.
1000BASE-LH Singlemode 9 N/A 10 to 70,000m (note 6)
6) The transmission distances are dependent on the particular fiber loss and coupling loss involved, among other factors, and can be estimated from the optical loss budget. For distances less than 20km, a 10dB attenuator must be used. For distances between 20km and 40km, a 5dB attenuator must be used. Attenuators can be purchased from most cable vendors.
On the same FAQ page you can also find the Optical budget and Optical Characteristics.
