Force POE activation on a J9148A switch

Hi,

We are looking for the activation of the POE for passive POE acces point (Ubiquiti Picostation M2 HP with openWRT as firmware). The AP does not send any information to the switch. For our POC, we have used the POE adapter.

Some information about the AP we are using ca be found here : http://dl.ubnt.com/datasheets/picostationm/picom2hp_DS.pdf (including Voltage).

So we are looking for some solution to use our POE Switchs.

The AP you have chosen does not support 802.3af therefore you will not be powering it via PoE from your switch, which is why it comes with a power injector to provide it with PoE.

And there is no solution to "force" the switch to power it via POE ?

Re: Force POE activation on a J9148A switch

Unnegotiated PoE would not actually be PoE.  PoE relies on the negotiation to meet safety specs.  There is no actual standard for "passive PoE" it is just a de-facto nonstandard hack used in prosumer and low-end equipment.

You may be able to find a PoE PD wart device that presents the switch with a PoE negotiation and on the other side drops the correct DC voltage for the wall wart pluig on the device along with the ethernet pairs.

Ok, we are looking at the Instant 802.3af (http://www.ubnt.com/8023af) product or another like this one (there is some bad return for this product)

Thank you for your help.

I'm pretty sure those APs come with a power injector in the first place.
