HP ProCurve 2910al + module + Netword card - Need help!!!

Hello all

Ive got the HP ProCurve 2910al 24G (J9145A) and need to connect a server to it via either the SFP+ module or the CX4 module.

But my options are limited as i only have a PCIe x8 (Gen1) left in the server (server is not a HP)

So here is the questions:

Will this card:  https://www.myricom.com/products/network-adapters/10g-pcie-8b-c.html   work with the HP CX4 module (J9149A) in the 2910AL switch?

As i see it.  Its about the standard:  IEEE 802.3ak  and both support that.  But unsure if it will work.

Are anyone aware of other NiCs that will work?

Regards

You won't know for sure until you've tried it, however mixed-vendor links are far more likely to work fine nowadays than in the past.

Your CX4 max distance is 15m.

You can buy a fibre converter to put in the CX4 port so you can use fibre to get 300m.

Personally, I would prefer an SFP+ port - I think as things evolve in your server racks, you are more likely to get long-term use out of a SFP+ port than a CX4 port, plus there is far less uncertainty as to whether it will work or not. Plus a fibre patch lead is easier/neater to run than a CX4 cable.

If you are concerned about cost, 10Gb SR SFPs these days are only just over $100, so I'm not sure using the CX4 gives you the kind of savings it may have in the past.

I will for sure be cheaper as i already have the CX4 module and not the SFP+ one.  I would have to go buy this one.

But yes,  id prefer the SFP+.   Untill now i ive lived with aggregation,  so this is the first time i try 10G.   So honetly,  i dont dont know much about it.

Its not the money that separates me from going SFP+,  its more that i didnt find any SFP+ network interfaces for my win2012 server that was PCIe x8 gen1.  All was gen2 :(   Id perfer using HP´s solution,  but simply cant find anything i can use.   Well yes,  myricom have the SFP+ card,  but also here im unsure if it will work.

So if anyone can assist with this,  it would be great :)   Tried the combination perhaps?   CX or SFP+
