Hp Procurve 5400 Series L2 Connectivity with Cisco Box
Hi Forum Members,
I have a weird problem of L2 connectivity between Hp 5400 Series switch and Cisco switch.
In the network I have 6 Hp 2600 series which are connected to the Hp 5400 switch.
All the 6 edge switches connect to the HP 5400.All the switches communicate to the HP 5400 on a single Vlan.
The network is further extended by connecting the Hp 5400 to Cisco box on L2.
The gateway for the above HP network is on the Cisco switch. From all the HP switches I am able to ping to the gateway on the Cisco switch but I am not able to ping to any other network other than the same subnet.
On the contrary if i connect a client to any of the untagged ports of the HP switch I can ping to any subnet in the network.(HP+Cisco)
furthermore when I try to ping from any client on the Cisco network to the HP network switches I can't ping them. But I can ping the client connected on the HP switch.
I think I am missing something really simple in the configuration, but can't figure out what.
Hope the forum members have the answer for this.
Regards....

Re: Hp Procurve 5400 Series L2 Connectivity with Cisco Box
It would be a lot easier to help you on this if you gave us specifics, like a network diagram, switch configs, and exactly which IPs can and can't ping each other.
But without looking at that stuff, i think that the problem is almost certainly to do with routing on your PCs & switches, specifically what their default gateways are set to.

Re: Hp Procurve 5400 Series L2 Connectivity with Cisco Box
If you could post the config files of the cisco, 5406 and one of the edge switches it would be more helpful. Without that info it'shard to say what might be going on, but I have one suggestion: verify that you have IP default gateway configured in each of the edge switches.
