HP Procurve stacking change issue
Hi Everyone,
We have 2 switches in our main office (Procurve 2900, 2910 and 2910). The 2900 switch is the main switch (layer 3)
and the other two are stacked. The HP Procurve 10GbE CX4 al Module on the 2900 switch is connected to one of the 2910 switches (through a HP Procurve 2p 10GbE CX4 al Module). The two 2910 switches are connected through their HP 10GbE Interconnect al modules. The HP Procurve 2p 10GbE CX4 al Module on the other 2910 switch is connected to our two main servers.
This leaves a port on the HP Procurve 2p 10GbE CX4 al Module of the 2910 switch connected to the 2900 switch free.
The 2900 switch has a Procurve switch 10 GbE cx4/stacking port module that has A2 and A3 ports being used. A1 and A4 ports don't have ports in.
So add to that we have an office next door which we just had fibre cable put in to connect the two offices. A HP Procurve 2920 switch is going to be sitting in the office next door and it will connect to the fibre cable through a HP 2920 2port 10GbE SFP+ al Module, that is sitting in the 2920 switch. In the main office I need to put a HP 2p 10GbE SFP+ module into one of the 2910 switches. This in turn means that I need to remove the HP 10GbE Interconnect al module from the 2910 switch I choose.
My question is; if I remove the HP 10GbE Interconnect al module and replace it with the HP 2p 10GbE SFP+ module isn' it going to stop the switch that isn't connected to the 2900 switch from connecting to the network and in turn, this means that everyone on that switch doesn't have network access?
Also, are these modules plug and play or are the configured in some way?
I have attached a pic of what I am talking about.
thanks
P.S. This trhead has been moevd from Switches, Hubs, Modems (Legacy ITRC forum) to ProCurve / ProVision-Based. - HP Forum Moderator

Re: HP Procurve stacking change issue
I don't really understand your description.
Your picture shows a spare port. You can patch something to this port, I guess.
It might seem clearer if you do a "show lldp neigh" on each switch so we can see which is connected to which.
