Load Balancing Policy on ProCurve 5406zl and ESX 3.5
I'm connecting two NIC's on a ESX 3.5 Server as a bond to a ProCurve 5406z switch.
I configured a trunk on 5406z but do not know which algorithm on ESX fits to the trunk.
ESX offers:
Route based on originating virt. port ID
Route based in IP hash
Route based on source MAC hash
Which on to choose for the trunk on 5406zl
P.S. This thread has been moved from Switches, Hubs, Modems (Legacy ITRC forum) to ProCurve / ProVision-Based. -HP Forum Moderator

Re: Load Balancing Policy on ProCurve 5406zl and ESX 3.5
As per this Document:
http://cdn.procurve.com/training/Manuals/3500-5400-6200-8200-MCG-Jan08-12-PortTrunk.pdf
The actual distribution of the traffic through a trunk depends on a calculation using bits from the "Source Address and Destination address".
When an IP address is available, the calculation includes the last five bits of the "IP source address and IP destination address", otherwise the "MAC addresses" are used.
So i guess you can try with the IP or the MAC.
Good Luck !!!
