Manual displays fonts incorrectly

The manual for the ProCurve 2534 at http://ftp.hp.com/pub/networking/software/2500-MgmtConfig-Oct2005-59692354.pdf does not display or print correctly (refer attachment) in Ubuntu 12.04 with the Microsoft TTF pack installed and possibly elsewhere too.

This may be because the PDF contains inter alia Times-Roman which is not embedded and where the local version does not provide the same mappings for all glyphs as that used by the author (or why all fonts used in a document should always be embedded in the resulting PDF).

It would be extremely helpful to know what the keys/key combinations are used to access (at least) cancel/edit/save/help when in menu mode. I have figured out that at least in some contexts and fields, "ïïïïïïï" means enter, but for example, on the switch configuration page it was far from obvious that in some fields "enter" would move from field to field (i.e. equivalent to tab or up/down) and in other fields that it would return to the menu line to save the choices.

Re: Manual displays fonts incorrectly

Hi Hermit,

I can confirm that i see the same behaviour on Linux Mint Debian Edition using both the built-in document viewer, and Adobe Reader 9.  I don't know how you can request the document to be re-made correctly, but i think you'll be waiting a while...  In the mean time, i would suggest using the management & config guide from a similar model such as a 2510, 2520, or 2626.

Regards,
Paul
