Multiple default gateways
Good day,
We are currently running a Layer 2 HP 2620 switch environment. I have four companies which each has its own switch configured with vlan's which are tagged to my core switch. The switches point to one default gateway where all the outside traffic is directed to.
I would like to purchase four ADSL routers, one for each building which should act as a failover as soon as my main internet line fails.
What would be the best way to configure the switches to have multiple default gateways so that the ADSL gateways per building will take over immediately once the main line has failed?
Thanks

Re: Multiple default gateways
Hi Blong,
Your 2620 switches support RIP, so the way i would try to do this is get ADSL routers that support RIP, and configure each ADSL router to distribute a default route. Then if the Internet connection goes down, the switch can use the closest ADSL router to get a default route.
If you do this, make sure that each ADSL router is on a separate VLAN so that clients do not end up with two gateways on their subnet.

Re: Multiple default gateways
Hi Paul,
Thanks for the feedback.
We will test and see if it works.
If not we might take a look at installing a Peplink device.
