new module installation
Hi,
I have an HP procurve 5406zl with one module installed and the switch is up and running.
We have purchaed a new one and i have looked through the dcumentation and i can see that i would need to reboot the switch if i were changing an existing module to a different spec.
If i install a new module will i need to reboot the switch? This module is going in an empty slot on the switch. Would just like to confirm.
Thanks

Re: new module installation
Hi phillbl1
If the slot is empty(since last boot), then you do not have to reboot.

Re: new module installation
I would think you would want to power it down for the insert though, so technically it would be rebooting. While I haven't installed a new module on any of our 5406zl switches I know I would not do so while the switch is powered on. Are the modules listed as hotswapable? That would be the only way I might consider putting them in while powered up.

Re: new module installation
hi thanks for the replies. I think you can put these in when the switch is on but like you said.... this is a production switch and this can not have an issue in normal operational hour so i am going to do it out of hours. You can put the module in and the reset/reboot the switch
