ProCurve 2620 PoE Heat Dissipation
Hi
I am planning a new computer room installation and need to calculate the power and heat dissipation figures for the room. I'm planning to use 8 ProCurve 2620 48-port PoE (J9627A) switches. The quick specs provide the range of power consumption but it does not provide the heat dissipation figures. The only reference is,
"Maximum power rating and maximum heat dissipation are the worst-case theoretical maximum numbers provided for planning the infrastructure with fully loaded PoE (if equipped), 100% traffic, all ports plugged in, and all modules populated."
The quickspecs do give the maximum power rating but not the maximum heat dissipation.
I have tried telephoning various HP numbers but cannot obtain this information. Can anyone here help?
Thank-you in advance.
Martin Crawshaw

An approximation would these would be equal.

Re: ProCurve 2620 PoE Heat Dissipation
Hi Dennis
Thank-you for your reply.
You're saying there is a direct ratio between power consumption and heat dissipation of approximately "1".
Since my posting I've seen other converters putting the ratio between Watts and BTU/hour at "3.41". That would make sense if all the energy were dissipated as heat within the comms room but the switch is powering 24 phones at 7.5Watts each which are not in the computer room. So should I subtract the power used to drive PoE devices and only consider the residual?
Regards
Martin
