Question on Uplink on E5500-24G and E4800-24G

Hi experts,

I am having some doubts over uplink on this 2 type of equipment: E4800-24G and E5500-24G.

Was reading throught it features and benefit when i came across the following:

"optional 10Gbe interface for uplink"

1) Does it mean that i can't use the SFP transciever (on the front of the switch) to do uplink ?

2) Is it a must to have 10Gbe interface in order to uplink the devices.

=) thank and have a nice day.

Cheers

Charles

Hi Charles,

If you are OK with 1GbE uplinks you can use the SFPs in the front to uplink the switches to whatever you want.

Though if you need 10GbE uplink you need to install a module for that.

Re: Question on Uplink on E5500-24G and E4800-24G

Hi Charles

Gigabit Uplinks: Dual-personality ports for either 10/100/1000 or mini-GBIC SFP connectivity for increased connectivity flexibility

the 4 fixed SFP modules has a dual personality, meaning, if you are going to activate/use it, your RJ45 ports 11,12,23 and 24 will be deactivated, and can be use for the UPLINKS, and with regards on the 10G, I don't see any option for this, but, I guess, SRG is correct, this is a separate module, you can use it together w/ the SFP w/o affecting each others, both will be live., 10G can be either UPLINKS or direct to a server
