slow network on one segment of lan

we have 3 4204vl procurve switches and each switch is connected to our netware server (has 3 nics) which does the routing and is the dhcp server. each switch has its own range of IPs that it can dish out.

i've been using iperf to test our network bandwidth and my results from segment to segment (switch to switch)

i've attached a table to display my iperf results.

slow is about 4-7 Mbs/sec

fast is about 200 Mbs/sec

here is the show ru for switch #1:

module 3 type J8768A
module 1 type J8768A
module 4 type J8768A
module 2 type J9033A
trunk D24 Trk1 Trunk
sntp server 10.2.38.3
ip routing
timesync sntp
sntp unicast
snmp-server community "public" Unrestricted
vlan 1
name "DEFAULT_VLAN"
untagged A1-A24,B1-B24,C1-C24,D1-D17,D19-D23,Trk1
ip address 10.2.38.10 255.255.255.192
no untagged D18
exit
vlan 870
name "VLAN870"
untagged D18
tagged Trk1
exit
ip route 10.2.38.64 255.255.255.192 10.2.38.1
ip route 10.2.38.128 255.255.255.192 10.2.38.1
spanning-tree Trk1 priority 4
password manager
password operator

the other 2 switches just have the default vlan.

any ideas on why it is so slow?

thanks in advance!

Re: slow network on one segment of lan

Do you have servers on Switch #1?

And Clients on Switch#2 & #3 get "fast" connections to those servers?

(I know that's what your table says, but I'm just checking...)

Do a "show logg -r" - anything odd happened lately?

"show int brief" - what speed are the ports running at?

"show int port" - what kind of utilisation are you seeing on ports?

"show int disp" - any errors on ports?
