Cannot see dual paths on MSA1000 and Linux AS 2.1

We have an MSA1000 with the inbuilt SAN 2/8 switches (2 of) attached to 2 GL380 with 2 x fibre HBA's.

The disks can be seen by the hosts, but only via one channel. When using the ACU to set up the LUN's it can only see 1 of each HBA from each host when attached across the 2 switches. When i move the connections into just one switch the ACU can see all the HBA's. This however still doesn't let Linux see mulitple paths.

Any ideas apprieciated

Hi Allan

You are running Secure Path?

Sometimes you need to cause a failover of the controllers so that the second controller "realizes" there are connections there.

Assuming you have the second controller...

Manually... remove Controller A and let Conroller B take over.

The more Civil Method... using Secure Path Manager, attach to one of the servers with the SPAgent on it and manually more the path of a lun form one controller to the other. You should be able to right click the lun and click "Move path" or "Move Controller" or something similar. (It's been a while since I have seen it, I must have a screen-shot somewhere.

Since you are running Linux, you would probably run spmgr with some switches to swap paths. The first method is probably the easiest and you can quickly confirm in ACU.

Re: Cannot see dual paths on MSA1000 and Linux AS 2.1

Hello everyone,

Not sure I'm going in the right direction here, but if you are merely trying to get the 2nd path to be seen for the purpose of labeling the FCA's inside the Array Configuration Utility, so you know which cards you're presenting LUNS to, then the best way is to use the MSA1000 Support CD, which is bootable. Simply pop it into the machine for which you want to label its Fibre Channel cards, and power up the server. It'll bring up a LINUX based ACU, from which you'll see both of your paths, and you can label them appropriately. Then, just reboot that server again with the CD ejected.

I do this for every server I put on the MSA1000, as I've run into this issue in the past and it seems to be the fastest way for me to move on with my job.

Hope it helps someone.

Re: Cannot see dual paths on MSA1000 and Linux AS 2.1

I've sorted it now thanks. We had to install secure path with only one HBA connected, reboot, and then reconnect the second HBA and the failover then works.

Bit of a crap piece of software, but at least it now works

Him
I am trying to applied the same concept, but with only one path at the moment. Would you folks give some step by step on how I can see my RAID5 that I've created. I am currently running RH AS 3.0 on Itanium server.

Please help a newbie.
