connect sw3800 with sw3900

hi

i want to connect the Brocade switch sw3800 with sw3900. When i connect the two switches, two connectity can't be build and the switchshow on the sw3800 port out is "port 15: id N2 Online L2 E-port (segmented, incompatible, (VC Link Init incompatible)"

who can tell me what happened and how to build the connectity ?

Re: connect sw3800 with sw3900

Hi,

this is due to some parameter which is different on the 2 switches. Most fabric parameters need to be the same (except for domain ID) for the switches to form a single fabric.
Run the command configshow on both switches. Have a look at the fabric.ops parameters and compare them from the 2 switches. If something is different (e.g. VC Encoded Address mode or Core Switch PID Format) you should change it. On the 3800 you need to run switchdisable, then configure, and select the fabric parameters to change. Then run switchenable to re-enable the switch.

You say: VC Link Init incompatible

This is an option which is set at the port config (same page where you set the L1 and L2 parameter) had nothing to do with the global switch config.

so set at both sides. L1 or L2 and VC init on or off, not mixed

Re: connect sw3800 with sw3900

btw, it's good to check if there are diferences between the switches dont get me wrong. because this can cause problems too.

Please look at the firmware release's, one is from the 3.x family and the other from 4.x, big difference.

There are combatibility tables for interconnecting brocade switches.

You might also want to download and run Brocade Fabric Manager (in evaluation mode). It has a nifty "Zone Merge" utility that will check both switches for compatibility for doing a merge and also help you merge and copy zone configurations prior to actually connecting the switches. It will alert you to any fabic parameters that are incompatible. Tell us what the conflict(s) is/are and we can advise you as to what parameter(s) to standardize on!
huh?
