Re: Data Protector 6.0 GUI on HPUX

there is no xomni in /opt/omni/bin or any where else that I can see, but I did find in the Forum someone said that there is no GUI support for HP-UX IA-64, they suggest running a windows system and connecting to the HP-UX that way. We currently are running HP-UX 11.23 on Itanium processor so I had to load the IA-64 not the PA-RISC.
Not sure if I should uninstall the cell manager from the UNIX and install it on the Windows, any suggestions?

Re: Data Protector 6.0 GUI on HPUX

actually id depends ;

if you have more unix clients than residing on unix side is more feasible . you can install gui to your pc and manage unix cm from your pc.

Re: Data Protector 6.0 GUI on HPUX

xomni went away in 6.0 (or maybe with 5.5)

So there is no HPUX GUI. Installing the GUI on windows and connecting to the HPUX based cell server works great. I prefered this method even when xomni existed. The Windows GUI is much faster.

Re: Data Protector 6.0 GUI on HPUX

I believe you can get the GUI if you install the PA-RISC version,
My question for Bill is, I have the Cell Manager on the HP-UX, do I install just a client on the Windows box? and are there any special settings I need to make to get it to talk to the HP-UX? Where can I find those settings?

Re: Data Protector 6.0 GUI on HPUX

Hi

You can install the gui on windows pc (Xp or 2003).when you open for first time GUI on windows, you are asked for connect to a cell manager, introduce here the name of Unix and clcik Connect.

The windows host must be a member of Cell and have installed te User Interface.

Re: Data Protector 6.0 GUI on HPUX

Hi
I forgive this.

you can verufy the dns resolv to connect to the cell manager and give the windows user access to the cell manager, for this task you have got a user in windows with password.

in the HP-UX side you must to add the user:

print '"Name_user" * * * admin' >> /etc/opt/omni/server/users/UserList

Re: Data Protector 6.0 GUI on HPUX

You must have the UI installed on the windows system, But the windows system doesn't have to be in the cell server.

If it isn't in the cell server, you can still manage the cell server, but you cannot backup your windows system.

Using the windows CD, you can select "install console" from the splash screen. You'll want to make sure DNS is working and resolving the cell server and windows server.

You'll also have to be sure that the users file on the cell server, allows admin access from that windows server.
