Upgrading firmware 2.38 to 5.20 in MSA1000 in MS cluster 2000 and 2003 environment
Hi.
We need to upgrade of firmware because 2.38 version is knowned for SQL server errors.
The lastest version of the MSA1000 Active/Passive is the 5.20
I 've downloaded from
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=443349&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=415598&
swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1005<\HTML>
(thanks to vcespon and pablo garcia)
I've downloaded the MSA1500cs Flash Utility 2.9 for Windows 2003 (don't work in windows 2000, i've tested)
I would like to known the necessaries steps to upgrade the firmware without problems, having these considerations:
1. We have Active/pasive configuration (an only controller)
2. We have two clusters, one with W2000 an other with W2003. All server with single path in only a HBA each node. (will be necesary stop clusters and other I/o access to the MSA?)
3. We have 13 Logicals units created Very important, because have Quorums, SQL server database, Siebel installations, etc.
4. We don't know what want to say the critical note in:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c00866863&dimid=1439373434&dicid=alr_feb07&jumpid=em_alerts/us/feb07/all/xbu/emailsubid/mrm/mcc/loc/rbu_category/alerts<\HTML>
What's the meaning of 'As with any firmware update, be sure that there is a current good backup available first.' I's refering to a LUN'S Backup (We don't know to do these) or a data on disk Backup (it's impracticable, because we do backups of files and database, but not image disk backup, sizes are so long)?
Please anybody to helpme?

Re: Upgrading firmware 2.38 to 5.20 in MSA1000 in MS cluster 2000 and 2003 environment
hi rafael ;
this is a prerequsite of each firmware upgrade. assume that something goes wrong in fw upgrade and you lost the array consistency. you cannot mount your disks. what will you do. of course you will restore your data from your backups.
take koffline or online backups your data before fw upgrade. just to be on safe side.
