Disk initialization failures
HSG80/MSA1000
We had a drive fail yesterday, but after replacing it I get the following error on trying to initialize it.
Instance Code: 03F40064
Error Code: 9250
I have tried another new disk, with the same results.
It may be worth nothing that I am attempting to replace a SCSI 3 with the new HP SCSI 320.
thanks for any input

Re: Disk initialization failures
Is this in the HSG80? Or in the MSA1000?
When you have a failed drive in the HSG80, you must do the following CLI commands:
1.) Remove the drive from the failedset. DEL FAILED DISKxxxxx
2.) Delete the disk so that the HSG no longer recognizes it. DEL DISKxxxxx
3.) Now you can physically remove it from the system.
4.) Insert the new drive into the old slot.
5.) RUN CONFIG -- It should confirm that it added the drive.
6.) Now you can init the drive!
What is the size of the drive that you are trying to insert? and what is the firmware level of the HSG80? It may not be supported. Example: 146GB disk will not be recognized by a V8.6 Firmware level HSG80.
With 4000+ spindles in our SAN storage, we replace one drive almost every week. .1% failure rate.
MSA1000 commands are similar but slightly different.

Re: Disk initialization failures
It will also be worth nothing the current ACS patch version (if HSG)to ensure compatibility with the new drive type. 8.6 will require minimum of patch 13 and if 8.7 should be fine anyway.
