hi
Anybody remember a problem with hpux adapters 1GB and 2GB conflicting with a brocade domain id number 8. there was a problem before but i cant remember if it was ever fixed. its like the hardware address with an 8 in it conflicts with the domain id number 8 on brocade switch. any information here is really appreciated.
Also, i would like to find out migrating hpux
which binds to hardware address, how to migrate from 8 port switch to a 64-128 port
switches, how it effects the binding on hpux.

Re: domain id 8 conflict with hpux
Hi Eddie,
AFAIK:
*DON'T* use domain ID 8 with HP-UX!
In the way like HW-Pathes are build and drivers work, the "8" indicates FC_AL mode, even if your SAN is fabric, because the "8" stands for "storage" in FC_AL.
Switch to another ID!
If you are going to swap your switches, make sure to use the same domain ID and port number to connect the storage devices, because HP-UX is using both to build the hardware path.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Solution
Eddie
take a look at http://docs.hp.com/en/J2635-90017/J2635-90017.pdf The doc is about migration from private loop to fabric, but it has several concepts you will use when changing the switches.
Specifically, don't use domain id 8 ("Do not configure switches with a domain of 8. This configuration is unsupported and will not work. HP systems reserve domain 8 for Private Loop devices.") and use vgexport/vgimport to associate LUN with the new device files you will have after the change
