DR replication using the EVA5000

Hi,

I am looking for a DR solution. My apps is a banking apps and the DR is 1500 kms away from the DC. Oracle is the database.

We planned to do Oracle Log Shipping, but the bank is not happy with ANY loss of data, which may occur during the time that the archive log is being built at DC before shipping.

I have seen CA (continous Access) being used to replicate between 2 EVA5000's using the FC links.

Can this be done over IP.

We need to have REALTIME replication.

Any ideas on what we should consider.

We are using MC Service Guard clusters with HP-UX 11i. Now what we need is replication between DC and DR. Any/all ideas will help us.

Many thanks in advance,

Patrick

Re: DR replication using the EVA5000

Many vendors provide FC to IP bridges which would allow you to make use of CA or products like that. Among them are CNT, SANcastle, and SAN Valley.

That may not be a complete solution for you though as there's no way to guarantee that what's replicated is a complete Oracle transaction. You may end up with have to do some combination of replication and log shipping or ???

Re: DR replication using the EVA5000

I believe you can do this with with Continous Acess/EVA (CA) or a Veritas Solution and SAN Hardware like the Eclipse Series from McData.

Re: DR replication using the EVA5000

Have you already looked at the product pages of CA-EVA? There is a lot of useful documentation, here:

Re: DR replication using the EVA5000

Just to let you know, my HP EVA expert says EVA CA is great for short distances (under 100KM), but is very poor for anything longer. The controllers were not architected for very long asynchronous replication.

You can look at other replication options such as Veritas, an appliance, or a different array. The HP XP 12000 has much more robust data replication options. That is one big reason why we are going with the XP 12000 vs. EVA, not to mention other issues with the EVA.
