Duplicated Volumes when Restarting

Hi! I got a problem when I restart a Win2K SP4 ADV Server with Secure Path 4 installed and 2 HBAs, that is connected to an EVA5000. The problem is that when I restarted the server, it got duplicated partitions. We restarted again, and I got back original partitions, but now we got paths changed. Any ideas of what to do? I'm thinking trying to uninstall Secure PAth and install other MultiPath Option like HP MPIO...

Re: Duplicated Volumes when Restarting

MPIO will not work with an EVA5000 today (that's coming soon), and will require a major firmware upgrade.

What version of Secure Path are you running?
No matter where you go, there you are.

Re: Duplicated Volumes when Restarting

German might have been talking about the "basic MPIO" which has been available for some time for EVA-3000/5000.

Re: Duplicated Volumes when Restarting

Hi! Thanks for your response. We're talking about BASIC MPIO, and the Secure Path's version is 4.0c SP1.

Is the driver loaded correcly. Look in system manager if you see a Secure Path bus..

Re: Duplicated Volumes when Restarting

I installed HP Basic MPIO, but it didn't work. The problem is that when I reboot the server, it changes all drive's letter path, and sometimes it double or triple partitions.
And yes, there is a Compaq Secure Path Disk Bus installed.
Could it be a firmware problem?

Re: Duplicated Volumes when Restarting

No, basic MPIO is not compatible with Secure Path!!

I would rather try to find out why Secure Path is not working than mess with the basic MPIO.

Did you, by accident, install the workgroup edition of Secure Path?

Re: Duplicated Volumes when Restarting

I uninstalled SP4.0c and then installed MPIO, but didn't work. So, I reinstalled SP4, but it still does the same... change partitions letters.

No, I didn't install SP4 Workgroup edition.

Re: Duplicated Volumes when Restarting

Hello German,

which Version of VCS is in use? Take a look at SP2 and SP2-1 for SecurePath 4.0C.

Re: Duplicated Volumes when Restarting

Hi German,

I've got the same sort of problem.
On a Nashead Dl380g4 SSE connected on an EVA3000.
Most partitions are displayed correctly but 2 partitions appears 2 times.
Every time the same partitions.

I've used MPIO basic for EVA3000/5000.

I've got no solution but i'am still searching.

Greets Jerry.

Re: Duplicated Volumes when Restarting

Hi German,

About changing partition letters:
from the time when I was sysadmin on a win2k cluster connected to storage via SAN I remember that we assign drive letters on storage disks manually through Computer Management->Disk Management. This was stressed on a training for Win2K cluster.

So if your partitions letters are default letters given by Win2K, reassign them manually.

And yes, about duplicated partitions: we had that problem on windows if driver (ATF in that time, now PowerPath) is not (properly) installed.
