EMC calriion CX3-10c fc direct connected with rp4440

Dear all

I have EMC storage Calariion CX3-10c with redundant controllers and 2 fc host port on each controller.
This storage connected through fiber directly to HP rp4440 server with fc-HBA dual port, & each port connected to storage controller. The server works under HP-UX 11i V3.
I followed the EMC instructions to install the storage, and I have installed all the required depot files as well as the power path software on the server.
The storage is able to detect the server as well as the server name (kanetact), but there is a fault, and the fault status report is (invalid server), as u can see this on the snapshot attached in here.
In the host properties, Agent tap (kanetact: is not a managed host unable to retrieve remote agent configuration).
In the second attachment u will se the packages that Iâ ve installed on the server and the output of (ioscan â fnC disk), (ioscan â fnC fc), however some time I can see the EMC storage on the server bye executing (ioscan â fnC disk) twice, and sometime I see the EMC 4 times, and some time I cant see it at all, as the case I attached in here.

Andy have you checked with EMC that this configuration is supported? Doing direct-connect to FC arrays is pretty rare these days and isn't alway supported... what mode do the FC HBAs think they are in? what do you get from:

fcmsutil /dev/fcd0
fcmsutil /dev/fcd1

It wouldn't surprise me if this topology is unsupported by EMC...

It would not surprise me if this configuration was not supported by HP!

I think the configuration would be more stable and supported if configured through a fabric switch with zoning, set up with the WWN of the rp4440 servers fiber cards, displayed by the command of the previous post.

Hi

It looks like you dont have the host registered with the clariion. You need to have EMC NAviagent installed on the host and if you HP server has multiple ip addresses then you need to add a little txt file in the /opt/Navisphere directory called agentID.txt with the FQDN of the host on one line and the ip address on the next.

Hi,

You need to install "Naviagent & NaviCLI" softwares on your hp-ux server. These softwares are available on powerlink.emc.com.
Register yourself and download the proper Navisphere software. Install it on hp-ux host. Deregister fc connections from storage and Register it again after starting Navisphere agent (/sbin/init.d/agent start).

I hope its better to take help from EMC. You need to take care of Data .

I did re-install HP-UX 11i v3, and I followed EMC step bye step.
I did install:
NAVIAGENT, & NAVICLI
Before that I connected the server to the SP management ports.

Today the storage able to retrieve the server information (please see the attachment) and the server detect the storage disk with 0 GB disk space (ioscan â fnC disk)

The problem is when I try to create a LUN and try to associate it to the server Error massage come.
########Error: No Valid Storage System#########
No storage systems match your server selection(s). Only storage systems connected to all selected servers will be displayed. If you selected more than one server, your servers may not all be connected to the same storage system.
Or
The user may not have the right privileges to access the storage system attached to the server

Hi,

Once again I will explain you step by step. I hope you are missing somewhere.

1) Connect storage system to the Server(hp-ux).
2) Install NaviCLI, NaviAgent and latest powerpath software.
3) start the Agent (/sbin/init.d/agent start)
4) Use ioscan (full ioscan) & insf -e
5) Go to Navisphere and check weather your host is registered or not. It will show Active--> Yes and Logged in-->Yes) If not showing then Register manually.
6) Assign Luns from Navisphere.
7) Use ioscan -fnC disk and check for LUNS
8) Use insf -e
9) powermt display
10) powermt display dev=all

In yhe begining It will show 0gb luns. these are the gateway Luns.
You need to use ioscan and insf on these 0gb Luns. then only your host will get registered.

In step#2
I did installed naviagent first then naviCLI
Immediately the agent reports the host information to the storage (see the pervious attachment).
But after installing the powerpath software as well as I applied the license key, & system reboot, then the system stop detect the storage at all, as well as the storage says the agent is not running on the host.
I discovered that the host agent was not started; and I do start it manualy (./sbin/init.d/agent start). but still the agent not detectable in the storage like before.
Again I do (./sbin/init.d/agent stop) it says (navisphere agent is not running).
that is mean I tried to start it 100 times and says (starting navisphere agent) and when I try to stop it says it is not running.
Iâ m sticking in this point now.

It is not necessary that the Navisphere agent should run contineosly.

Please check in Navisphere as mentioned in the document attached.

when I do (ioscan -fnC disk) I can see only the two local HDD as well as the DVD rom. but when I do (ioscan -fnC ctl) I can see toe folloing:

Yes my problem almost gone, I followed your document step by step.
I just did the following:
1.Enabled logix from the storage properties.

2.Enabled read write cash, and set the cash memory.

3.Create Storage group manually.

4.Create RAID grope.

5.I added the host manually to the storage group.

6.Create a LUN under the RAID group and bind it to storage group.

7.The LUN take automatically physical device name disk13

8.I reboot the server and I found disk13 under the directory (/dev/disk) and detectable by running the command (ioscan â fnC disk)


Powerpath also seems function properly & I setup Failover Setup in the storage by running Failover setup Wizard.

Now I am away of access to the server, so next time I will do the following:

1-create a physical disk for (disk13) by the command (pvcreate).

2-create a new volume group (vg01)

3-extend the volume group (vgextend).

4-add the new disk (disk13) to (vg01).

5-create Logical volume (lvol1)
then I will check if everything is OK and I will feed back

If you are using PowerPath with HP-UX 11iv3, you should *not* be using the new agile DSFs - you should use the old legacy DSFs (i.e. use /dev/dsk/* rather than /dev/disk/*)

Here's an excerpt from the PP manual for HP-UX:

PowerPath 5.1 supports only legacy addressing device special
files (DSFs). New style DSFs are not supported.
By default, legacy addressing is enabled in HP-UX 11i v3. Do not
explicitly disable legacy style addressing before or after installing
PowerPath. Disabling legacy addressing will prevent PowerPath
from seeing devices.

To verify whether legacy mode is enabled, type:
insf -Lv

PowerPath 5.1 disables at the device level the native multipathing
for legacy addressed devices. When devices are configured for
PowerPath (for example, when you run powermt config),
PowerPath disables native multipathing on the devices it
manages by setting to false the leg_mpath_enable attribute.
Do not change this setting to enable native multipathing for
legacy addressed devices while PowerPath is installed. Removal
of devices from PowerPath management reenables multipathing
for legacy addressed devices (default HP-UX setting).
The HP-UX 11i v3 documentation provides more information on
legacy addressing in HP-UX 11i v
