EVA 4400 Controller Issues

Hi, Just setting up an EVA4400 and am eperiancing some issues. When i log in to the WOCP I see that the state of controller 1 is unknown, I need to set FP1 Topology to direct but when i try i get an error.

"Command execution failed. Error: Cannot access storage system. Communications error."

I've tried rebooting it but get the same error, how do i reboot it, without taking out the whole EVA, obviously this is not in production yet but i'd rather not power it down.

Controller 2 is seemingly happy.

Any ideas, someone did suggest to me that the direct fibre to the server might be the wrong way eg two lasers shining at each other....

Re: EVA 4400 Controller Issues

One more note, when you go to the download page, ignore the header there which says "XCS EVA4000 Management Module WOCP Firmware Upgrade" actually its for the EVA4400 and not the EVA4000. Look at the webpage's header which is correct, EVA4000 doesn't have WOCP at all.

No one is perfect in this world.

Re: EVA 4400 Controller Issues

First there is 9006000 version of the firmware out now.

We did a Code Load on the EVA and the WOCP and now we have lost comms with both the controllers from the wocp....

I think we may have the wrong WOCP firmware.

Can someone explain why on this page

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3664764&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=3664763&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=54

There are two versions of the firmware..

v0001.0000 17 Dec 2008 9.6 MB

v0001.0020 10 Oct 2008 10.7 MB

Now why is it that the later dated one, looks to actually be an earlier version of the firmware. Have we made a mistake by going by date? Should we have gone for the "Earlier Dated" / "Later Number Series" version.

Since now the WOCP has lost connection with both the controllers with the same errors as controller 1 intially exhibited, but they can be managed from command view, I believe that when intially installed the controllers were on different firmwares one of which was incompatible with the WOCP firmware we had installed.

Re: EVA 4400 Controller Issues

Yes, that page has lead many people to the same confusion. To talk to controller firmware 09006000 you need management module firmware 0001.0020 or 0001.1000

You can download the latter one from here:

http://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=CommandViewEVA

Select CommandView v8.1 ABM ZIP format (T5494-10006.zip)

Re: EVA 4400 Controller Issues

Do I have to use Command View 8.1 to talk to 0001.1000 or can I use CV 8.02 ?

Re: EVA 4400 Controller Issues

Command View 8.1 is loaded on the management module with firmware 0001.1000. It allows you to perform basic tasks on the EVA without the need for a Windows server with Command View 8.02.
But for many things you still need a server with Command View 8.02. Consider the new firmware with Command View 8.1 as a backup management solution.

Re: EVA 4400 Controller Issues

Ah, that makes sense, so command view 8.1 does not replace 8.02 it's just the web based version of Command View... I think that there was a little confusion there. Thanks...
