EVA VCS V.3.028

Hey All,

Just letting you all know that I have come across some news about VCS V3.028 being released in a couple of weeks. New (newer than HP05) EVA Disk firmware is expected to come around the same time too.....

Anyone got more info on this to share here....

Cheers,
Saket.

Re: EVA VCS V.3.028

Some fixes for VMware ESX users. There was a customer advisory, but I don't have the link handy right now.

Re: EVA VCS V.3.028

We experienced the bug that is fixed in VCS 3.028 and it was first diagnosed by hp at our site. The adivsory is attached.

Re: EVA VCS V.3.028

G'day Tom,

Although I am aware of the issue, we do not have any VMware ESX Server in our environment.

Could you please elaborate on the issue you faced.

Thanks,
Saket.

Re: EVA VCS V.3.028

Hi, all

We're using ESX 2.5 & 2.5.1 servers on an EVA 5000 VCS 3.020, Can't say we had many problems, so far, had it since Xmas 04.

Tom,

What sort of loading was the EVA experiencing when these errors occurred.

regards

John

Re: EVA VCS V.3.028

My guess is that Tom has an environment where at least one shared VMFS (VMware File System) with heavy meta data updates is used.

VMFS uses a SCSI reserve unit to allow meta data updates without a distributed lock manager. It's nothing what you would see on other operating systems.

Re: EVA VCS V.3.028

We only experienced the bug during the process of copying multiple ESX EVA Vdisks from one EVA array to another. We have used ESX with EVA under normal load without problems for over a year.

Re: EVA VCS V.3.028

FYI - I've attached the VCS 3.028 announcement advisory. There's more in it than just the VMware related bugfix and CV 4.1 is required. CV 4.1 is now available for download via ITRC if you have a linked support agreeement.

Re: EVA VCS V.3.028

This issue can also effect a single EVA. We were one of the pioneers who experienced the problem - on a single EVA 5000.

Re: EVA VCS V.3.028

I have now upgraded a few EVA5000s with VCS3.028 and satisfied with the response I got on the forum.
