eva+win2k3+itanium problem
Hello,
I'll try to explain our problems...
Environment:
- eva3000
- rx5670 server
- 2x HBAs FCA2101 (lp9802)
- windows platform kit windows 2003 64 bits edition
- secure path 4.0c 64 bits edition
After Secure Path installation everything works correctly for a day, then the host freezes and the vdisk were not visible. After reboot the machine, all works again for a day. We thought that it was an isolated problem.
Next day, the machine freezes and the only solution was uninstall Secure Path software.
After this, the machine have been working with the vdisks without new problems (but without secure path by modification in the switch zones, allowing only one FP from only an HSV)
Next weekend after the problems, we repeated this full installation procedure:
- upgrade fibre channel switch firmware from v3.1.0 to v3.1.1c
- install windows platform kit for 64bits version
- install securepath 4.0c for 64 bits.
After behavior test, we turn back the secure path installation because with secure path, the host was seeing two times every vdisk (at Windows Disk Partition Manager level, like if secure path doesnt works properly).
have someone experimented any similar problem with secure path and itanium servers?
Thanks a lot!
Best regards,
Juan Francisco Melero

Re: eva+win2k3+itanium problem
In order to use the EVA, you MUST use the securepath software. (And the SMA)
you stated that you are running Securepath 4.0C on your server.
What firmware/software version is running on the EVA?
What software version is running on the SMA (Management Appliance)?
All of these need to match in order for it to work correctly.
From your description, it does sound like your SecurePath did not install correctly.

Re: eva+win2k3+itanium problem
Hi,
it does seem like SecurePath did not install correctly. Did you get any error messages during the securepath installation? A while ago I had a similar problem installing SP 64-bit on an Itanium-2 server. Exactly same hardware as you have. I installed 3 identical servers, but only one had problems. During the install, it seemed to install itself to the wrong folder: C:\Documents and Settings\Adminstrator\Compaq\... instead of C:\Windows\Compaq\...
SecurePath does not give you any choice for the installation folder. During the install a few DOS-boxes pop up. I noticed it was running them in C:\Documents....\Administrator, and brought an error message (don't remember the exact text). After the install was finished, each disk was still seen multiple times by Windows. Deinstall/reinstall did not resolve the problem at first. After de-installing again, I went looking for traces of securepath in C: and deleted some folders in Documents and Settings folder which had some SecurePath ini files. It was several months ago, and I can't remember exactly which ones, so be careful! But after doing this, SecurePath installed itself correctly, and there was only one instance of each disk in Windows.
Only VCS 3.010 is supported under 64-bit Win2003 w/ Sp 4.0c 64-bit. Therefore you also need SMA Software 2.1 and Command View EVA 3.1. But they don't have any influence on the SecurePath installation on a Host.
Good luck with your reinstall.
Regards,
Stephen

Re: eva+win2k3+itanium problem
Hi,
we have a management appliance 2.1 with a command view 3.1.0.31 version.
On the other hand, I had not found problems during secure path installation, and I think we follow all requirements.
After installation applications worked fine until next day.
Is there any installation log or sign about it?
Debug mode?
Thanks a lot,
