EVAx400 Data loss!

Is there any problem with EVA4400 when we are going to add new disk drives or we want to have LUN expansion which these actions cause data loss?
When we were going to purchase EVA4400 the reseller told us EVA x400 series may encounter some problems when we want to add some new disk drives which causes data loss and they recommend us EVA x100!! Is it possible?

Re: EVAx400 Data loss!

This is nonsense.

With current firmware and correct setup the arrays are reliable.

Hope this helps!

Re: EVAx400 Data loss!

Hi,

FYI, I think there is no new shipment of x100 systems. Currently only x400 systems available.

If we follow all best practises and with latest firmware issues, there will not be any issues occur while Disk upgrade/LUN expansion.

I have done >50 Disk/Disk Enclosure upgrades in EVA systems and never noticed any issues as of now.

Re: EVAx400 Data loss!

There is no way you can loose data just by expanding a LUN or by adding disks by following the upgrade/installation guide.

EVA x400 is the current model in EVA with many improved features over previous generation x100.

Re: EVAx400 Data loss!

In older versions of firmware LUN expansion could lead to a controller reboot, but that does not mean any data loss.

He's has probably been involved on a case where controllers where removed from the enclosure (as the batteries on the EVA4400 are not inside the controllers, that can lead to losing data on the cache).
