Flexport license cross-grade
Hello all
I have an HP Edge Switch 2/24 in our production network. It has 24 active ports and no 'offline' ports. AFAIK this switch is a rebadged McDATA Sphereon 4500.
I also have an HP Edge Switch 2/32 in the production network. This switch has 16 active ports and 16 'offline' ports. AFAIK this switch is a rebadged McDATA Sphereon 3232.
I want to move the 2/24 to a test & development network. Is it possible to transfer the two 8-port Flexport licenses from the 2/24 switch to the 2/32 switch?
The two Flexport packs have different part numbers (the 2/32 uses part 316096-B21 and the 2/24 uses part 302660-B21). However I imagine they use the same underlying technology and if we can transfer the licenses it will save us a tonne of money.
Thanks in advance for you help.

Re: Flexport license cross-grade
Hi Gavin
What we tried in Lab is we had a 24 port switch in which there was some problem so we had to replace the switch with another same model. We took a config upload of the defective switch in a ftp server and we downloaded the same config in the new switch.which inturn brings back us all the configuration including licenses.
The same u can try here by keeping the domain ID and switch name of both the switches same. But make sure that both the switches are not participating in the same fabric.
Regards

Re: Flexport license cross-grade
Hi
Thanks for the quick response. I'd feel quite happy about moving the Flexport licenses from one 2/24 switch to another 2/24 switch (because the licenses aren't noe-locked and the target switch is identical).
What I'm specifically interested in is moving the Flexport licenses from a 2/24 to a 2/32. The difference being that they're two different models of switch.
FWIW the final configuration will be such that the 2/32 and 2/24 will *never* be on the same fabric.
