Hard drive Firmware

Morning, I have a windows 2003 enviroment and sometimes a 10k drive is replaced with a 15k drive. Sometimes we see blue screens that could be the hardware.

My question 1 is are the firmwares compatiable between a 10k and 15k drive of the same speed. would it have any effect as I noticed you can download different ones which kinda indicates that this could be an issue.

Re: Hard drive Firmware

I have seen that different models sometimes share the same load image, but you cannot expect that different drive models always use the same firmware image. It's rather an exception.

Re: Hard drive Firmware

Would the firmware only relate to the controller at a hard ware level rather than effect the OS.

I am afraid I didn't get the question - can you ask it again in different words, please?

Re: Hard drive Firmware

No problems.

Would a difference in Hard Drive Firmwares effect a Windows 2003 server .

If i had a raid 1 with 2 drives . 1st disk 36.4gb 10k firmware feb 2004
2nd disk
36.4gb 15k firmware july 2004

would this cause the software any issues

Re: Hard drive Firmware

I assume that the disk is connected to a RAID controller. It can indirecty affect the operating system if the controller has problems talking to the disk.
