HSG80 Direct connection to DS25

I had a pair of HSG80s in a multibus-failover moved that were connected to four 16-port switches. I have moved them off the switches and connected two DS25s with single 2GB HBAs. I can get the fabric on the controllers to show (point to point up) but the connections don't show up for the DS25s. I've tried to add the connection manually but that doesn't work. Any ideas what could be wrong. Thanks in advance.

I'm confused about what you are asking?

Can you clarify a bit? What host O/S are you using? Are you still using switches?

Re: HSG80 Direct connection to DS25

There are no switches. I took them out because I only need the two DS25s to talk to the entire array and they are now in a physically separate room. So the DS25s are cabled directly into the front of the controllers. After more testing I found that if I put the controller ports in loop mode I can get the DS25s to talk to the controllers but only when the OS is running(Tru64). What I need to do is create a cluster with the DS25s. To do that I need to boot both nodes off the SAN. The problem is, the only way for the nodes to see the SAN is if the OS is already running. From the chevron prompt I cannot see the SAN. I also just found out from a officemate that HP support told us that this configuration won't work, we must have a switch in the middle. I don't belive that.

Re: HSG80 Direct connection to DS25

Scott,

The HSG80 won't work when connected direct to an HBA. It has to have a switch in between.
There is no support for point-point connection.

Sorry,

Nick.

Re: HSG80 Direct connection to DS25

It's true - the HSG80 controllers need switches between them and the host.

Re: HSG80 Direct connection to DS25

Does RA4100 support point-to-point connection? Thanks.

Re: HSG80 Direct connection to DS25

I think that the RA4100 needs a SAN switch as well. Looking at the manual http://h71025.www7.hp.com/support/reference_library/viewdocument.asp?countrycode=1000&prodid=499&source=252351-001.xml&dt=264&docid=6491
It also shows a SAN switch as being required.

Re: HSG80 Direct connection to DS25

I have one DL380 G2 server with Windows 2000 and plan to coneect it RA4100. Can I use the direct connection without any Compaq FC-AL switch? Thanks.
