MSA 1000 question ????

Is it possible to connect a fiber cable beetween the msa 1000 and a cisco switch port so that i see my msa1000 and i will be able to ping it.

I have a Novell environnent, EMBEDDED san switch 2/8 in the msa 1000. so i can plug all my 5 server with the san via a Qlogic card but I want to also connect the msa1000 to network via a cisco switch ???

Re: MSA 1000 question ????

Hi,

no, that will not work. The MSA1000 is designed to be connected to a SAN, not a LAN. SAN uses the Fibre-Channel protocol, and will not connect with a LAN switch. The embedded SAN Switch in the MSA1000 has a LAN port (RJ45), but that is only for managment of the switch.

Re: MSA 1000 question ????

The MSA1000 controllers do not have a LAN port, but you should be able to connect them to a Cisco *Fibre Channel* switch. I don't know if the controllers will respond to an "FCPING", though and you would have to replace the embedded switches by Fibre Channel I/O modules.

The embedded switch, however _has_ a LAN port and you can connect it to a Cisco *LAN* switch. It will respond to an IP "PING".
