For some reason I am not able to change the default Switch Name which is switch1. The command is switchname "newname" but whenever I try it there is no error but shows me the switchname as switch1 still.
Does anyone know how to get around this?
Thanks,
Rob

Solution
Hi Rob
you can't set the switchname on a MSA SAN Switch 2/8.
Each switch is assigned a system-generated name, dependant on the slot in which
it is installed.
example: Primary MSA1000 =>Controller Name-switch1
it should be documented in the MSA SAN Switch install guide.

Re: MSA1000 Internal Switch
This behaviour is somewhat documented, but I can't find a note that you cannot change the default name assignment.
It might be possible to create fabric-wide unique names if you assign a name to your MSA1000 box, too (CLI> set globals system_name="XYZ"), but I would prefer if I had full control over the entire switch name :-(
